Welcome back blog readers,
There is a bit of news that I am excited to share with all of you. The results of the Best Local Author have been announced, here’s the link.
This is quite an honor considering that I came out publicly a few months ago as a local author. While my book has been available online for two years now, I’ve only maintained an online presence up until January of this year.
Having coming forward publicly/locally has been very rewarding, not only as an author but personally. Once a few co-workers caught wind that there was an author among them, word spread like wildfire. Since my debut/ first local appearance at the Author Showcase in February, I have sold 10 paperback copies (private sales) of my book during the month of March (to co-workers), making March 2020 the best month for sales, so far.
While selling 10 copies in one month may not sound like a lot, it’s not about the number of sales that was ever important to me; but rather the conversations that are prompted once the reader finishes my book. Four of those readers have a personal connection and share a similar experience. Three of those readers have a daughter, a niece, a family member that is trying to cope with the trauma they endured and are recommending my book as a means of helping them through a tough time. One reader is a mother and wants her oldest daughter to read my book so she can be aware of the potential dangers of teenage dating and learn how to recognize signs of an unhealthy relationship.
It’s that kind of support and recognition that helps to validate that sharing my experience as an adult of childhood sexual abuse worth the effort.
To all of you that have purchased a copy of Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: My Journey from Victim to Survivor, Thank You! To all of you that took a moment to cast your vote for me, Thank You! To those of you that opted to leave a review or rate my book on Amazon or Goodreads, I appreciate each one, Thank You!
That’s the Author News for now. ~ Hannah

The local library was a great location, ample space to set up 16 authors in one room and a separate space to hold the Author Panel for readings and questions.
The residents and readers in the area showed their support. The turn out was amazing! Steady but not so busy that we (authors) felt overwhelmed. The event was well organized; from the planning, the preparation, and the setup. The staff on duty were attentive and helpful, offering the authors snacks and beverages.
Overall, a great experience and one I am looking forward to doing again.
I’m working with a fellow indie author to help promote other indie authors, like ourselves.
What we plan to do is find other authors, readers, book reviewers to join us to feature a different author each week on our blogs, websites, Facebook, Twitter and any other social media outlets that we have an account for. This is like a #writerslift taken to the next level.
The books that I do happen to read, I will leave a review/rating on Amazon, GoodReads, and here on my blog under the REVIEWS page.
If you’d like to be featured under my Author Spotlight, please send me the following information:
- Send a Link to your Amazon sales page OR
- Send an image of your book cover WITH a short blurb about your book. I will copy/paste what you send.
- If you’re holding a promotion, please let me know the date(s) so I can coordinate your time slot to benefit your needs.
- If you’re contacting me through email, please use Author Spotlight in the subject so I don’t think it’s spam.
If I require more information, I’ll let you know.
What’s the catch? No catch. No cost. Just pay it forward.
If you have an account on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or any other social media account that you can share the work of other indie authors, please pay it forward. If you read their book, please leave a rating/review.
What do you have to lose?
Your book will be showcased for one week before a different author is rotated in for their week in the Author Spotlight.
During your time in the Author Spotlight, I will share, retweet, bump the post twice before you are rotated out. So, if I put you in on Friday, I’ll bump, share, retweet again on Sunday, and again on Wednesday.
This idea is still a work in progress, I’m open to suggestions.
I’m looking forward to featuring your book under the Author Spotlight!
Here is the link to the group on Facebook. If you are an indie author and would like to have your book(s) promoted to 1,000’s of readers for FREE, please check us out and find out how.
Welcome back blog readers,
During my morning routine, I noticed that the Kemptville Advance Readers Choice list of nominees had been released.
Each year several local businesses, entrepreneurs, and residents are nominated by the members of the community for the services they provide.
I haven’t made my first public appearance yet, so this is quite a surprise.
Anyone that would like to cast their vote can do so until March 5th.
Wish me luck!
Welcome back blog readers,
Within the last few weeks, I was invited to join a local writers group that meets up on Monday evenings at the library in town. I accepted the invitation and have met a very diverse group of local authors with a wide array of experience and knowledge.
This writer’s group is organizing a Showcase for Local Authors at the end of this month. Many will have a table set up to sell their book, perhaps even sign their books. Some authors will be on a panel to speak for 15 minutes and take part in a question & answer segment. Prizes are being awarded to a handful of lucky guests.
One minute I’m being invited to join the online group, the next minute I was invited to join them for this event! Of course, I agreed! This was the push that I needed to get out of my comfort zone and take my writing to the next step.
I rushed to place an order for a Square reader for my android phone to allow me the ability to accept credit card payments. The device is FREE, so why not take advantage and have that means of payment available.
An order was placed to Amazon for 15 copies of my book, Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: My Journey from Victim to Survivor. Trust me, I would have loved to order more, but the shipping costs and import fees from the USA to Canada are outrageous. At my price (author price) I pay $3.83 per copy, which is what it costs amazon to print each paperback on demand. Fifteen copies came to $57.45, plus the shipping, plus the import fees, plus the tax came to $88.69, that $88.69 is in USD which gets converted to $116.68 CAD. So yeah, I was hesitant to order any more than that. Luckily I still have a few copies stored away that I can add to the pile.
After talking with a few other indie authors that had already attended a book signing event, they suggested that I order some custom bookmarks to hand out. Assuming I will sell through the 19 copies of my book during the four-hour event; at least I have something to hand out to potential readers. I placed an order through VistaPrint for 50 custom bookmarks.
I was fortunate to have enough time to allow all of my orders to arrive before the event at the end of this month.
Overall, it’s been a pretty good month for book sales, actually, it’s the best month so far.
I have no complaints and I’m really excited about making my first public appearance. Hopefully, I remember to take a few pictures so I can share them with you here in a later post.
Inspired Indie Author~ Hannah
My journey as a self-published author started one year ago (June 28th to be exact). That is the date that Breaking the Cycle of Abuse: My Journey from Victim to Survivor was released to the public on Amazon/KDP.
I’ve decided to celebrate this occasion by offering discounted prices for both Kindle and paperback copies for the month of June. The price for the Kindle e-book went from $3.99 (USD) to $2.01 (the lowest I was allowed to set), and the price for the paperback went from $14.95 (USD) to $7.50, and they will stay at those prices until June 30, 2019.
Here’s the link to the selling page, for anybody interesting in obtaining a copy at the discounted price while it lasts.

- Kindle Unlimited (pages read)… 1,369

- 172 Followers on my Author page on Facebook

- 23 Followers to this blog
All in one year.
I say not too shabby for an indie author that has done everything herself with the help of her husband that did a final edit and assisted with the cover design/format. I don’t have a team of assistants that help promote me or my work. I respond to every interaction on social media personally. Just as I have spent more on advertising than I’ve made. That’s the truth behind self-publishing.
Anyway, Please take advantage of the discounted pricing for the month of June! I encourage you to Share, Like, and leave a comment/feedback. Your reviews are welcome and can be left on any Amazon platform or on Goodreads if you’re a member. You may also leave a comment on my facebook page or messenger as a few have and those will be added to my Testimonial Page on this blog.
Thank You all for your continued support!!
As always, 25% of the proceeds will be donated to RAINN.
