Trump Dump: Veterans before members of Congress!

Welcome back blog readers,

Over the last few days, I’ve been seeing/reading the thoughts/opinions of my friends/family on social media regarding Trump, his views, what he would like to put into action as well as the treatment/rights of veterans compared to the treatment/rights of immigrants.

What occurs to me is that much of the anger/frustration that is being displayed from us (the general public) is misdirected and we are comparing two things that aren’t related, in the sense that one has nothing to do with the other. Yet so many of us keep jumping on that bandwagon because we’re mad about one issue and taking that anger out on something not related.

Allow me to clarify…

First, let’s get the topic of Trump off of the table. It should not come as a surprise that I do not support Trump, I didn’t vote for Trump and frankly, I’m shocked he’s still in power. I know there are the loyal Trump supporters that will always stay loyal, and that’s fine. There are Trump supporters that voted for him and are trying to turn a negative into a positive by reminding us all that Trump WILL make America great again because they are in denial about Trump’s real agenda and they can’t swallow their pride to say, I was wrong to vote for him. Then you have antiTrump supporters who see that he’s trying to take away human rights along with many other despicable things.

Here’s the real issue… You have a man that has had 20+ women accuse him of sexual misconduct, this same man is conspiring with Russia/Russian mob for over 30 years, this same man that has been married three times to three IMMIGRANT women and he has a huge hatred for immigrants (even though his grandparents were immigrants). This same man that intentionally tore hundreds of families apart to deport illegal immigrants (parents) and threw their kids (US Citizens) in holding facility then made toddlers who can’t speak English defend themselves in court. Trump is hoping to open many wildlife reservations, risk the extinction of many species (which up until this point were protected) just so he can drill, cut down trees and destroy the planet. The same Donald Trump has been threatening to take away a woman’s right to choose (because he doesn’t agree as if to suggest that he’ll have to worry about an unwanted pregnancy). Just this week this same man is pushing really hard to take away the human rights of the transgender community (again because he doesn’t believe people can be transgender).

With all of that said, please remind me of how Trump is making America great again. Why are so many supporters unwilling to see that Trump is not a modern-day hero, he is not looking out for the people, he is looking out for his businesses, his assets, his family, and his business partners. Trump supporters can keep on supporting a monster, it is your right to do so. Although your choice makes me concerned about where you stand on my rights as a woman. As one of my high school teacher’s used to say, “You can polish a turd, but it’s still a turd, now it’s just a shiny turd”. That is how I see Trump, a shiny turd.

Politics and religion need to be separate, just as public school and religion need to be separate. We need to stop cramming our personal believes down each other’s throats and stop judging people because their beliefs are different than our own. What we believe is a private matter, but it doesn’t mean that you’re right and everyone else is wrong.

It’s one thing to be patriotic, to have pride in your country and be firm about what you believe. It’s another thing to force all students to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance, because they may not pray to God. Just as you can’t expect all athletes to stand for the National Anthem because, in case you haven’t noticed many athletes are not AMERICAN (take NHL Hockey for an example). Don’t get your panties all in a bunch because some players take a knee, that is their right it’s not like they are burning the flag.

Perhaps we should consider the fact that all country national anthems should be played/sang to honor all of the players and their respective home countries, but that would be time-consuming and Americans are impatient and just want to watch the game, right. Chances are that if the national anthem for Sweden, Norway, Canada, Russia, Czech Republic all had to be played to honor the hockey players, what are the chances that Americans would stay standing for all of them? I think that falls under “practice what you preach” and if you can’t then shut the hell up.

As for the comparison of veterans to (illegal) immigrants, here are my thoughts on this matter. Veterans and Immigrants are two separate issues and the slogan of “Veterans before Immigrants” would make more sense if the slogan read “Veterans before Members of Congress”.  I’m all for veterans, my grandfather went to Korea, my father went to Vietnam and my brother was in the Coast Guard in Alaska and my sister volunteers at a VFW in California. Veterans serve their country, they put their life on the line and sacrifice so much to do what they do. They deserve to be taken care of while they are serving and after they get home.

Immigrants, on the other hand, you can’t compare them to veterans. Immigrants may not have fought for the USA (or wherever they immigrated to) but they might have served in their country. It’s possible, we just never ask them do we? We’ve been brainwashed to think immigrants are job stealing, disease-carrying parasites from a foreign land. In reality, most immigrants leave their country because there is a war taking place in their backyard (good chance that our beloved veterans are over there fighting on their home turf).

Again we don’t consider that as being a possibility. Immigrants flee across the ocean or across the border for a better life. They come over with not much more than the clothes on their backs. Most people don’t realize just how long the legal immigration process takes (again, because we don’t ask). The legal process takes a minimum of 3 months once the paperwork arrives at the processing center, nevermind the time it takes for FBI clearance, the medical exams for each person in the family and the time to fill out the multi-page application and gather all of the documents/proof that is required and the fee varies from $500-$1200 per person.

So think about that for a moment… You have a war taking place in your hometown, you can’t work, your house is gone and the only thing running through your mind is that you need to get yourself and your family to safety. You don’t have time to wait 3-9 months to go through the proper channels. Any important documents/proof may have already been destroyed. What are your options? Where do you go?

You do your best to start over in a country that boasts about being the best, the richest, a place where dreams come true. The only things veterans and immigrants have in common is war. One group is sent to maintain order while the other group flees for their safety. To suggest that illegal immigrants have more advantages, or are better cared for than veterans is absurd!

Members of Congress on the other hand…. If anyone deserves a cushy pension after their years of service, it’s veterans, not the members of Congress that have never served a single day in their life. From what I’ve noticed most members of Congress (including the POTUS himself) have successfully dodged/avoided that particular civic duty and encourage their kids to do the same. That’s not very patriotic at all now, is it?

I suspect that I’ve rambled on long enough. Folks we are on the same team no matter where we live, where we call home or who our parents are. Yes, there will always be a bad group, an extreme group, but you have the choice to be better than that.

Choose to be part of the solution, instead of continuing to be part of the problem.

To the Misfits, Underdogs, Loners and Black Sheep…

To the Misfits, Underdogs, Loners and Black Sheep… You are my kind of people!

These groups of people are the ones that I can and do identify with as well as the creative introverts. Many of us struggle to fit in with our peers, to be accepted for our contributions and the ideas that we bring to the table. We put ourselves out there and hope that we are not ridiculed, teased, laughed at or bullied for being ourselves.

While in high school (a time when most of us are still trying to figure out where we fit in), I decided to go against the grain as I typically do if given the option and decided that I was not going to learn a trade that 95% of the other girls were going to do. Most girls join Allied Health (aka Butt wipers in high school hence the immature nickname), but rather I decided to join Automotive Technology because that was more interesting to me.

I knew my choice wouldn’t sit well with other people, and I knew there would be a backlash of snide comments, rumors and some might wonder what my motive was. There was no motive, I wasn’t interested in dating the guys (in fact I didn’t date any guy from any grade in that program), I knew I would risk being teased/harassed/bullied (which I was for the entire 4 years), but I did it for me, for my own knowledge. I didn’t have a father figure, or anyone for that matter to teach me about vehicle maintenance/safety and I didn’t want to get screwed over for being helpless woman that doesn’t know any better. There was a part of me that also wanted to prove that I could do it when there had not been 1 female to successfully finish the program and I wanted to inspire girls that they could join a male dominant trade no matter what anyone else thinks.

During my senior the automotive program went from 1 female (me) to having 2 in the junior class, 3 in the sophomore class and 3 or 4 in the freshman class. I had a chance to speak with most of these girls during their exploratory week (the time when the freshmen experience each trade to see if it’s a good fit) and they felt the same as I did. They had an interest in a male dominant trade but were afraid to be the only female. It only took 1 black sheep to prove that we (young females) don’t have to follow the rest of the herd when it comes to our education/choosing a profession.

While on the topic of high school and the cliques/groups that we are all too familiar with, I didn’t fit in with any of them. I was not popular (which is code for girly girl/cheerleader, every guy wanting me, every girl wanting to be me, prom queen). I was not a jock, while I was a decent athlete I was always underrated and next to last to being picked (due to my lack of coolness/popularity). I wasn’t a stoner (smoker, drug user, party until you puke). I wasn’t a nerd even though I was a friend to most. I was a loner and sat by myself at lunch; since I was approachable and sympathetic I was often joined by other loners, misfits, outcasts and a few nerd friends. As an introvert, I don’t have an issue being alone or sitting quietly not feeling the need to be the center of attention. In fact the less attention the better.

Creativity comes in many forms from writing books, poetry, writing music, being musically inclined, painting, designing bridges, photography, graphic design even applying makeup and styling your hair. All forms of art are subjective and there is no right or wrong, only do or don’t. Being creative is a self-expression which is open to interpretation and not everyone will “get it” and that’s okay. It’s more important to appreciate what has been created because it takes courage to bare your soul and share that part of you.

Even amongst authors/writers/poets there are many cliques with their rules and standards as to who and what they will accept to join/promote. I had joined a few upon releasing my book to gain insight from those with more experience. I found that there may be a handful of people that do take the time to share their insight, most just want to brag about how well they are doing while avoid answering your question(s). Those that aren’t bragging and rubbing our noses in it, are busy being dramatic. I have since removed myself from such groups as they only cause me stress and their views are not aligned with my own.

I write for me. I find it therapeutic and I don’t require guidelines/standards, specific word counts to do so. I refuse to compromise my style of writing to fit inside impossible parameters that are made up by others to follow. I’ll keep doing my own thing, if you get it, Great!  If you don’t, that’s okay too.

It’s okay not to follow the crowd. It’s okay to follow your own path even if you have to clear that path yourself. It’s okay not to fit in or be associated with a certain group. It’s better to be yourself than to compromise who you are or what you believe. You are unique and it’s okay to embrace that individuality.

While this idea for a blog post has been something I had considered a few months ago, there was something I read this morning that gave me the little push to get this out there. (Thanks Anthony)

Random Jibber Jabber

Welcome back blog readers,

Besides the fact that my part-time job has been keeping me busy, there isn’t anything new to report. I feel compelled to get a few things off of my chest, maybe I should say give a voice to my inner monologue.

With the recent headlines and my time (countless hours, more than I care to admit) on social media reading comments/views from both sides; I find myself mentally exhausted. I know what you’re thinking, just stay off social media and stop torturing yourself… Easier said than done.

There is a part of me that wishes that I could yell “WAKE UP PEOPLE, TAKE YOUR BLINDERS OFF!” and that would be enough for people to see what the hell is going on. Sadly we are far beyond that point. The people are no longer united, in fact it’s been so long that I don’t recall a time (any period of time) that we as humans lived harmoniously, in peace, not competing against each other or divided.

There is too much corruption in the White House/government/Senate…. FACT

Most government officials/senators have been swayed by large payouts or promises by big companies…. FACT

This means that most of our government isn’t looking out for the people (US taxpayers that pay their salary and elect them into office) but rather they are looking out for themselves and the big companies they are tethered to.

Are these companies making YOUR life better? Are these companies helping to boost the economy in your area? Are the contributions from these companies making you feel safe? Are the contributions from these companies providing you and your family the health care/medications at an affordable cost? Are these companies helping to ensure that you will be able to receive your social security benefits when you’re eligible to claim it?

I bet the answer is NO to all of the above. We don’t elect businesses into office, we elect representatives that should be looking out for the people. Businesses only look out for themselves and the upper senior managers, not the little guys or their families.

Having two parties was a means of maintaining balance, one side should not overrun the other. Now we have a president that fires anyone that doesn’t agree with him and he promotes someone that does to fill that spot. The members of his staff that feel it’s morally wrong to follow the president have resigned and are often replaced with another blind follower.

This president is very active on social media, which is fine except that he’s been allowed to get away with saying vile things about his citizens without consequence. Those that speak against him or bring up something from his past that he has shared willingly is now “Fake News”. Trump speaks against immigrants when his father (his source of wealth) and all three wives are IMMIGRANTS.

History was not my best subject, but I do know that if you claim to be an American and your bloodline is less than 100% native american, then you come from a line if immigrants. That is not an insult, just a fact. I’m all for immigrants escaping their country to start over where they feel safe. Let’s be honest, most of us would do the same if there was a war taking place on US soil, in our back yard.

What I am against is forcefully removing children from their parents and treating them like prisoners and making then defend themselves in court without representation. That is despicable! I don’t want to hear that there isn’t a law that states that we can’t separate children from their (illegal) immigrant parents. I want to hear that the laws are being amended/fixed/changed to help reunite these kids, that we are doing something to expedite the paperwork to bring those families back to their homes because that is the RIGHT thing to do.

I’ve said this before and it’s worth repeating, Just because we’ve done something a certain way FOREVER, doesn’t mean it’s the best way or there isn’t a better solution. Laws can be changed, certain laws need to be changed because we have evolved and honestly it’s long over due. Do we really want to revisit the horrible time in history when Hitler was in power, families were seperated, millions were killed because they disagreed or because of their race (something they had no control over)? If we keep going and not speaking up, not voting, not standing up for what’s right then we might find ourselves right back in that time period but under the ruling of Trump and his Russian mob allies.

It’s bad enough that there is a racist, anti-women, anti-immigrant, rapist accomplice, ego maniac running the show. Is he really the BEST candidate to run the country, can we not find a better more suitable person to represent us? While the MeToo survivor in me feels defeated with the recent events, I will not stay silent, I will keep talking and voicing my opinions because I know that I am not alone in this. I am not the only one that wants change.

Can’t we all agree that both parties have done wrong, that neither is 100% right? Can’t we get passed the idea of being loyal to one party, especially if that party is helping to protect sexual predators and giving them all the green light to keep doing what they have been doing? Can we not agree that rape cases/sexual misconduct/sexual assault cases need to be handled differently? Just because the evidence doesn’t meet the criteria in the courtroom, doesn’t mean that a crime was not committed.

No your sons, husbands, nephews don’t have to wear body cameras or take notes (how absurd) for fear of being falsely accused. SHOW SOME FUCKING RESPECT AND LEARN THAT NO MEANS NO and DON’T BE A RAPIST, and you won’t have a problem.

Just me venting, hoping that some of this sticks.

There is only one race, the HUMAN race.

Welcome back blog readers,

I know that there has been an influx of posts over the last few days; if you’re following along you know why I’m fired up. I will do my best to say on the topic and give a quick reminder that I don’t work with notes or drafts (which may explain why I drift off of the topic for a bit). That is my preferred writing style, just off of the cuff unfiltered and unapologetic.

As the title states, there is only one race, the human race. With that said, we have proved to be the most intelligent species on this planet. We have created/developed medicine and ways to cure (most) diseases. We have advanced technology from fire to electricity to wireless and putting satellites in orbit. We’ve been to space and we have evolved, that’s right EVOLVED a great deal since the first human/cave person (you get the idea).

When we work together with a common goal in mind, we get great results. Think about all of the fundraising efforts that have been a great success like; Doctors Without Borders, Veterans of Foreign Wars FoundationAmerican Heart Association, Global Giving, Wildlife Conservation Society, there are countless examples of us coming together to make a positive difference in this world. The key word there is coming together.

As smart as we are, as highly developed as we have become we still manage to be our own worse enemy.  We have created laws, rules and government policies to keep ourselves in check and to maintain a sense of order to avoid chaos and anarchy. We have government officials that are supposed to be working together, but somehow they’ve managed to divide themselves into parties and they can’t seem to agree on anything, therefore we the people suffer. Neither party want to compromise, they are not willing to budge or admit that they might be wrong, it’s just one big pissing contest.

We have organized multiple branches of military to help keep us safe, to protect our borders, to maintain the peace, to patrol the international waters. Positions in the military should to be highly respected, no matter the branch or the rank. For the most-part, us common folk or civilians as we are called do have great respect for those men and women that serve our country.

As highly trained as these men and women are some of them don’t have respect for each other in the sense that it’s become another pissing contest as to (some not all) Marines feel that they are the biggest/baddest branch and all other branches of military are somehow not worthy or don’t deserve the same level of respect. I know you’ve seen the memes and various posts from Marines claiming to be better than those serving in the Army (most popular example).

What kind of message does that send when we have one group that puts their lives on the line looking down on other groups that also risk their lives. It’s like they’re still in high school and the jocks are bullying the nerds. Keep in mind that without the nerds our advancements in technology might not exist.

There is a time and place to be competative when it’s a matter of sports when there is a winning team with a trophy. This does not apply to the government or the military, there is no need to compete amongst yourselves, YOU ARE ON THE SAME TEAM!

While I’m on the topic of the military, it is my opinion that any citizen of legal age, good health (pass the medical screening) and is able to get through basic training should be allowed to serve/protect their country, that includes members of the LGBTQ community. Let’s be honest, they have been serving right along and it’s not that they are the issue, it’s the (homo/trans) phobics within the government that are making it an issue. They have the same civic duty as any heterosexual citizen, so if they want to join willingly, let them serve their country.

While the government likes to boast about the size of  “their” military and they are so quick to deploy them, you would think the government would do more to support them after they come home. Most of our government officials (those in congress/senate and even the president) have never served a single day, nor do they want their kids to sign up/risk being deployed. Our government officals get paid very generously to argue amongst themselves, push papers and have pissing contests, even after they are out of office and retired. Many members of our military don’t have the same cushy retirement package, but they should because they have earned it. Members of the military (and their immediate family) should never be denied medical/dental care, mental health care or wonder where their next meal is coming from, they deserve better.

My long winded point is, We as humans need clean water, clean air, and food that is not tainted, we need basic medical care, basic dental care, afforable housing, a decent minimum wage, and the freedom to make our own choice when it comes to our body. Farmers should be able to run their business without the government/big companies stepping in. The corruption and greed needs to stop, the egos should be checked at the door and we need to remember that we are on the same team. Since we don’t have a government that is truly working for the people, we the people need to work together to change that. Register to vote, let your voice be heard at the polls.

Chose to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. ~ Hannah

Opinions R’us

Of course, we are all entitled to our opinions and we must keep in mind that opinions are not FACTS. While we do have the freedom of speech (at least for now although sometimes it doesn’t feel that way), there is a time and place to voice your opinion.

When asked what is the best breed of dog, your answer is your opinion. When asked which is the best pizza topping(s), your answer is your opinion. When asked where is the best place to spend your honeymoon, your answer is your opinion. If we were to ask 10 people these question, the answers will not be the same.

When a victim/survivor of sexual abuse comes forward (no matter how long it takes) and your instant reaction is that THEY ARE LYING, that’s a problem.  They are coming forward with the truth, with the details as to what happened. The instant judgment shows the survivor that if you don’t support them, then you must be supporting their abuser. Imagine how that must feel.

The point is, yes have your opinion but when it comes to a sensitive matter, like this one please keep in mind that 1 in 4 females is a victim/survivor of sexual assault and 1 in 6 males are a victim/survivor of sexual assault all before they turn 18. Take a moment to scroll through your friend list to help get an idea as to how many people you know have possibly been affected. Is that the message you want to send to your nephew, your grandchild, your mother who has never told a soul about the abuse she endured, that their trauma is insignificant.

Chances are, the survivor has spent decades in silence, when they do come forward they are told that their truth means nothing and instant judgments from people who weren’t even there. Strangers who think they know better are asking why we didn’t come forward earlier, asking if we were drinking and my favorite, what were we wearing?

When survivors/supporters come forward with a statement that reads: “If you have not been sexually assaulted, then you don’t get to have an opinion on how or when we come forward”  if this statement ruffles your feathers, you have a slight inclination as to how we feel when we have something important to say and no one wants to hear it! You might have a better understanding as to how we have been forced to stay silent for as long as we have and why it’s so difficult to come forward at all. While we are coming forward with the truth, with details, sharing our worse nightmare, forced to relive our trauma and risk flashbacks and PTSD episodes to help take a sexual predator off of the streets and we are met with insults, accusations and being told “sorry it’s too late”, “without proof it didn’t happen” because our memories and night terrors are not enough. Do you have any idea just how frustrating that is?

Here’s my opinion, while you didn’t ask, but it’s my blog and I’ll say whatever I damn well please!

If you make a statement that indicates that you do not believe survivors, I will assume that you are just another bully who is protecting a sexual predator, or maybe you are a sexual predator. There is no other option and you are part of the problem.

I’m going to keep talking, I will not stay silent so that abusers can remain comfortable!
